AWX: Prepare for the changes
AWX is the open-source, upstream project for Ansible Automation Controller, part of the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. For many organizations, it’s their unified platform for managing Ansible playbooks, inventories, and job runs. June 2024 was the last release of AWX and there are changes afoot.
What’s changing?
AWX is moving to a services-based architecture where its features are split into smaller parts, each stored in separate repositories. It’s also adopting modern cloud-native principles to make it more scalable, efficient, and flexible. This shift brings both structural and functional updates that will affect current AWX users.
What do you need to do?
Get ready for the changes!
- Become familiar with the specifics of the new architecture and the details of the structural and functional changes
- Analyse how changes in the architecture could affect your existing infrastructure and workflows
- Develop skills in containerization, for example Kubernetes and OpenShift
- Evaluate whether upgrading to the Ansible Automation Controller would meet your needs, especially for added stability, advanced features, and support
- Reach out for help if you need it!
